Architecture and Design Museum in Los Angeles The A+D Museum is located at: 59The A+D Museum is located at 5900 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90036 00 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90036 "A+D Museum presents a selection of Los Angeles developers whose projects embody innovative vision in the field of architecture and thoughtful consideration for the future of the urban fabric. The “enlightened” projects on exhibit incorporate inventive and resourceful design, emerging architectural talent, ecological sustainability, or all of these tenets." Nothing is more encouraging than a group of talented, intelligent, and courageous individuals that are willing to step up and set precedent in the field of "enlightened development". The energy and excitement in the museum was palpable. There was clearly a sense that we had turned a corner and that there was a glimmer of hope for a field that has long been under a well earned veil of public scrutiny and suspicion. As the last 20 years have seen unprecedented growth and unprecedented bad design. But this was different. The room was full of the most esteemed architects, artists, developers and the most beautiful collection of models (and I do mean models) in Los Angeles. This was different...there was intellect, creativity, and inspiration here. Los Angeles is arguably home to the most talented minds in the world and yet somehow it may be the biggest disaster in terms of development. But if any city has the resources (and by resources I mean brains) to solve this problem, it is LA. And that is encouraging. Props to the developers highlighted in the exhibit: Urban Partners, Urban Environments, Bond Companies, CIM Group, Habitat Group, Community Corporation of Santa Monica, Livable Places, Gerding Edlen, The Ratkovich Company, Maguire Companies, Trammell Crow Company, AEG Worldwide, Palm Springs Modern Homes, Linear City, Minimal Productions, Samitaur Constructs and Venice Collaborative. |
